NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame’s men’s and women’s track and field programs have been named 2011 Division I All-Academic Track & Field Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The women’s team, which posted a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.31, was one of a nation-leading 12 BIG EAST Conference teams to make the list. The Irish men were one of seven BIG EAST teams to make the list, tied for second-most by any conference in Division I.

“These awards are reflective of the type of team we like to put together here at Notre Dame,” Irish head coach Joe Piane said. “We have a great group of student-athletes that not only work hard on the track, but also work hard in the classroom.”

To earn recognition, a team must have a cumulative grade-point average of over 3.00 through the spring 2011 semester.
