Notre Dame To Participate In Inaugural Super Six Series

Oct. 13, 2010

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s basketball program has been selected as one of the two BIG EAST Conference representatives for the inaugural “Super Six Series,” a new challenge event developed by the nation’s top six conferences (BIG EAST, ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10 and SEC).

The Super Six Series, which is committed to run through at least the 2011-12 season, matches two teams from each of the participating conferences in six high-profile early-season games at on-campus sites. Each conference will have one home and one road game annually in the Series, with games played during the opening two weeks of the season.

The Fighting Irish have been awarded the BIG EAST’s home game for this year’s Super Six Series, as they welcome Pac-10 member UCLA to Purcell Pavilion on Nov. 18 for a 7 p.m. (ET) contest. The Bruins lead the all-time series between the schools, 8-4, although this year’s matchup will be the first between Notre Dame and UCLA since Nov. 14, 1998, when the Fighting Irish posted a 99-82 victory in South Bend. Notre Dame also has won three of the past five games in the series.

Pittsburgh will join Notre Dame in flying the BIG EAST banner for the 2010-11 Super Six Series, with the Panthers traveling to Big Ten standard bearer Minnesota on Nov. 17. The remaining Series games for this year are listed at the end of this release, with dates and times subject to change, and potential television coverage to be announced at a later date.

The Fighting Irish have two starters and eight monogram winners returning for the program’s 34th season in 2010-11, joined by a three-player freshman class that has been ranked as high as eighth in the country by some media outlets. Notre Dame is coming off a 29-6 season that saw it rise to No. 3 in the national polls and advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the eighth time in the past 14 years.

Season tickets for the 2010-11 Notre Dame women’s basketball campaign are available by contacting the Murnane Family Ticket Office by phone (574-631-7356) or in person (Gate 9 in the Rosenthal Atrium at Purcell Pavilion) from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (ET) weekdays. Fans also can purchase tickets on-line through the official Notre Dame athletics ticketing web page (www.UND.com/tickets). A limited number of single-game tickets are expected to go on sale Oct. 21.
