Notre Dame To Host Nebraska-Omaha In Second Round Of CCHA Playoffs

Notre Dame, Ind. – It took until Sunday night to find out who their opponent would be for the second round of the CCHA playoffs but now the Fighting Irish know that they will be playing the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks in the best-of-three second round series at the Joyce Center.

The series begins on Friday, March 13 with a 7:35 p.m. game. Game two on Saturday, March 14 is set for 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, March 15th’s game, if necessary, will begin at 7:05 p.m.

Nebraska-Omaha finished the season in eight place in the CCHA with an 8-13-7-3 record, good for 26 points in the standings and eighth place overall. The Mavericks are 15-15-8 on the season. They advanced to the second round by sweeping Ferris State with 3-0 and 5-2 wins in Omaha, Neb., this weekend.

Notre Dame played at Nebraska-Omaha on Feb. 20-21, taking a pair of games from the Mavericks, winning 4-3 in overtime and then 1-0 in the second game of the series. That win clinched first place in the CCHA for the Irish.

Notre Dame opens postseason play with a 27-5-3 overall record and was 21-4-3-3 in the CCHA for 48 points. The Irish are currently ranked second in the nation in both the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll and the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports poll.

The remainder of the second round looks like this: No. 2 seed Michigan plays host to No. 7 Western Michigan. The Broncos knocked off Lake Superior, two games to one, winning game three on Sunday night, 3-1. No. 3 Miami plays host to No. 6 Northern Michigan and No. 4 Alaska will play host to No. 5 Ohio State in Fairbanks this weekend.
