NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The 2009 National Soccer Coaching Seminar will be held March 13th and 14th on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. This year’s guest clinician is John Ireland, the former Sports Conditioning and Performance Specialist for Derby County FC, L.A. Galaxy and Colorado Rapids.

As always, Notre Dame men’s head coach Bobby Clark and women’s head coach Randy Waldrum along with some of their players will round out this year’s clinicians.

Ireland worked with David Beckham and the L.A. Galaxy during the 2008 season. He also has worked with the Colorado Rapids and the Colorado Mammoth (National Lacrosse League) during which time the Mammoth won a world championship. The Derby County Football Club, in the world-renowned English Premier League, also has benefited from Ireland’s expertise. He currently works for the Sports Performance Academy at the Greenwood (Colo.) Athletic & Tennis Club.

As a sports performance coach, Ireland looks after all aspects of the exercise functions performed by the athletes including: cardiovascular training drills, strength resistance, plyometrics, agility, movement mechanics and flexibility exercises. Ireland not only works with young athletes, but also with adults who are striving for better performance.

Ireland received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Physical Education and Sport Science from Loughborough University in England. The school is regarded as one of the premier sport-science teaching institutions in the world.

Clark just finished his eighth year at Notre Dame and guided the Irish to their second straight BIG EAST regular-season title and the program’s eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. He is a two time BIG EAST Coach of the Year and holds a Scottish FA “A” License. Clark led Stanford University to a runner-up finish at the 1998 NCAA Tournament. Not only has Clark coached at a high level, but he has also enjoyed a distinguished professional career in the Scottish League making more than 800 first-team appearances, 696 of which were with the Aberdeen Dons. He was also involved in three of Scotland’s World Cup appearances as a player in 1970, 1974, and 1978.
