Notre Dame To Compete In First-Ever ACC Championship

April 22, 2014

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team travels to Cary, N.C., this week for its first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. The Irish, who are 15-8 on the season and 8-6 in the ACC, are seeded seventh in the tournament’s draw.

Tournament play begins tomorrow, April 23, but Notre Dame’s seed dictates that the team doesn’t play until the second round on Thursday. The Irish will face the winner of Boston College and Pitt, who play tomorrow at noon.

“We are very excited to see how we compete in the conference tournament against some of the top teams in the country,” said head coach Jay Louderback. “We know in the conference tournament as well as the NCAA tournament it’s one and done, so it is important to not look ahead but concentrate on our upcoming match.”

The top teams of the tournament received double-byes to Friday’s quarterfinals. They are No. 1 North Carolina (23-4, 12-2 ACC), No. 2 Miami (18-4, 12-2), No. 3 Virginia (18-5, 12-2) and No. 4 Clemson (20-5, 12-2).

Action on Thursday begins at noon for the Irish. Results will be posted here on UND.com following the match.
