CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Notre Dame’s (3-6) softball team took the tough loss 2-0 to Cal State Fullerton (8-6) in its second game of the day at the Palm Springs Tournament in Cathedral City, Calif. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Yankee Field at the Big League Dreams Complex.

The first four innings remained scoreless as the two pitchers Kenya Fuemmeler (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury) and Candice Baker were locked in a solid pitcher’s duel.

The Titans broke through for a pair of runs in the fifth inning, as Jessica Doucette walked with two-out and came in to score on Courtney Martinez’s fourth home run of the season.

The Irish picked up their first hit of the game to start the fifth with Erin Glasco (Johnston City, Ill./Johnston City) roping a single through the left side. Brittany Glynn (Seymour, Conn./St. Joseph’s) pinch ran for Glasco and after the next two were retired in order she was caught stealing to end the inning.

Sen ior Stephanie Brown (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol) hit a one-out single in the sixth inning. She moved to second on a pass ball and took third as sophomore Beth Northway (Kentwood, Mich./Kentwood) drilled a single into left field. After a strikeout, freshman Heather Johnson (Los Alamitos, Calif./Mater Dei) walked to load the bases. But Baker induced a fielder’s choice to get out of the inning.

Fuemmeler took the tough loss for Notre Dame (0-4) as she went to distance only allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

Notre Dame wraps up its play in the Palm Springs Tournament with a game against Ole Miss at 9:00 a.m. on Feb. 25.

Irish Notes: The Irish have now been shutout three times this season.
