Notre Dame Second Varsity Eight Earns BIG EAST Crew Of The Week Honors

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame second varsity eight boat has been selected as the BIG EAST Conference Crew of the Week. It marks the first time that the Irish have earned crew-of-the-week honors this season and comes after the boat’s strong showing at the San Diego Crew Classic.

The second varsity eight boat, comprised of coxswain Kelsey Otero (Mequon, Wis.), Megan Keegan (Marietta, Ohio), Mallory Glass (Fernandina Beach, Fla.), Carol Ann Michel (Princeton, N.J.), Erin McConnell (Simsbury, Conn.), Genevieve Malone (Dayton, Ohio), Morgan Kelley (Windermere, Fla.), Elli Greybar (Western Springs, Ill.) and Erica Copeland (Marietta, Ga.) qualified for the Grand Final of the JV Collegiate Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy race by finishing second in the B heat on Saturday, Apr. 4. The crew crossed the finish line in 7:06.49 to earn a spot in the Grand Final on Sunday, Apr. 5. The boat then went on to capture fifth place in the grand final with a finishing time of 7:09.47.

Notre Dame’s appearance in the Grand Final marked the first time an Irish second varsity eight boat appeared in a grand final at the San Diego Crew Classic.

The Notre Dame team will be back in action this weekend on Saturday, Apr. 11 when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to square off in a four-boat regatta against Brown, Minnesota and host Ohio State.
