Jan. 16, 2008

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams will play host to the Notre Dame Indoor Opener Friday evening, the first of four home meets this year. The Irish will welcome athletes from 12 other schools to compete at the Loftus Sports Center. The meet is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s long jump and the first running events are slated for 6:30 p.m. with the women’s 60-meter dash.

This will be both teams’ first competition since the Blue/Gold Invitational, which was held Dec. 7. The Irish found success early at the meet with multiple squad members earning BIG EAST qualifying marks as well as one earning an NCAA provisional mark. Senior Kurt Benninger posted a time of 8:05.22 in the 3,000-meter race to surpass the qualifying time of 8:06.30.

Complete results will be posted at the end of the competitions on UND.com.
