Notre Dame Opens Arlotta Stadium With Win Over Iroquois Nationals

Oct. 16, 2009

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team on Friday afternoon defeated the Iroquois National Team, 14-8, in the first contest played in the brand new Arlotta Stadium on the University of Notre Dame campus. Today was the final game for the Fighting Irish during the exhibition ‘fall ball’ season.

“This place is beautiful,” said Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan about Arlotta Stadium. “I can’t imagine that there’s a nicer lacrosse facility anywhere. The stands are nice and high and it allows the fans to look down upon the field. The inside is very nice as well. You have place for the players to relax and to study. There is also a nice big locker room. All in all I think they did a very good job.”

The official dedication for Arlotta Stadium will take place on Saturday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m. (ET) in the stadium. The public is welcome to view the ceremony from the stands.

Groundbreaking ceremonies for Arlotta Stadium took place on April 18, 2008 and construction commenced in August of 2008. The stadium features over 2,000 permanent seats, lights, an artificial-turf field, locker rooms, team lounges, restrooms and concession areas.

“It’s great having a place we can call our home,” stated Irish senior All-America goalie Scott Rodgers. “Today was our first time on the field and the surface is great. For us to get on the field now and get used to it before the spring will help us out a lot. Also, the fans we had today were great and I think the stadium is drawing a lot of attention.”

The state-of-the-art facility is named after Notre Dame graduate John Arlotta, president and chief executive officer of Denver-based Coram Inc. He and his wife Bobbie pledged the lead gift toward the stadium, which is east of the Joyce Center as part of the University’s new athletics quadrangle. The Arlotta children – Mindy, Andy and Jon – also have pledged an additional gift from The Arlotta Family Foundation toward the project. In addition to their generous donation, alumni and friends of the men’s and women’s lacrosse programs have made significant contributions.
