CULVER, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame could not have picked a more-perfect setting to open the 2014 football preseason. The Irish opened fall camp at the historic Culver Academies.
While all practices are closed to the public, Monday’s two-hour session was open to the media. In all, some 60 media folks made the trek to the campus.
The Irish went through a 24-period practice, including numerous individual and team drills as well as both seven on seven and 11 on 11.
STRONG AND TRUE UPDATE: Jess Atkinson of 3 Penny Films will once again document Notre Dame’s preseason camp for a Strong and True program that will air on the NBC Sports Network at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 25. On Monday, Atkinson shot just about every square inch of Culver Academies campus, spent time with the Irish running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Tony Alford and also mic’d up Brian Kelly as the head coach opens his fifth year on the Notre Dame sidelines.
OFF THE FIELD FUN: Notre Dame hoped to get some time away from the field and meetings to enjoy a bit of the Culver Academies incredible activities but a threat of lightning kept the team from fishing, swimming and taking a shot (pun intended) at archery. The team will try again on Tuesday after practice. After dinner, Notre Dame was treated to a special showing of “When the Game Stands Tall.” The film is about the record-setting 151-game winning streak by the De La Salle High School football team. It also stars Jim Caviezel, a well-known Irish football fan, as head coach Bob Ladouceur.
Notre Dame is scheduled to get back out on the practice field Tuesday morning for another two-hour workout.
Here’s a twitter recap of the day through the eyes of the program, media and players:
