NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame ranks as the most popular college football team in the country for the third straight year, according to results of a recently-released Harris Poll.

The results are based on telephone polling of 1,008 adults surveyed between August 12 and 18, 1999.

The poll also indicated that the proportion of adults who say they closely follow college football rose from 30 percent in 1997 to 35 percent in ’98 to 42 percent this year.
