Notre Dame, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame cancelled all its athletic practices Tuesday and postponed a volleyball match slated for Wednesday, in light of the tragic events in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania earlier today.

Classes and all other University events were cancelled at approximately 10:00 a.m. EST Tuesday. A mass was held outdoors on the South Quadrangle at 3:00 p.m. EST, with thousands of members of the Notre Dame community in attendance.

Notre Dame was to play host to Michigan in volleyball Wednesday night, but that event has been postponed and will be rescheduled.

A determination on other events this week – including Notre Dame’s football game at Purdue Saturday – is expected Wednesday.

Big Ten Conference officials expect to hold a conference call with athletic directors of member schools at 8:30 a.m. EST Wednesday — with conference commissioners slated to conference at midday.
