NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 12 Notre Dame men’s tennis team was selected for the second-consecutive year to compete at the prestigious Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Team Indoor Championship on held Feb. 15-18 and hosted by the University of Washington.

The field of teams selected consists of the top 16 squads in the nation. The tournament draw will take place in early February before the competition. Four of the teams set to compete in the field are also on the Notre Dame dual-meet schedule: Illinois, Ohio State, Penn State and Virginia. Other teams selected to participate includes Alabama, Baylor, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Texas, UCLA and Washington. The final selection from the Mountain Region is still to be determined.

“It’s a big thrill to be invited back to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship,” head coach Bobby Bayliss said. “The field this year is truly outstanding and we have yet to play in Seattle so we’re excited to compete. It is definitely one of the special competitions of the season for us.”

Last season the Irish went 2-1 in the tournament with wins over Penn and Texas in the four-day tournament. Pepperdine handed Notre Dame their only loss of the championship, falling 4-2, before coming back to close out the competition with two wins. The Irish went on to blank Penn, 4-0 and dominate Texas, 4-1.

This will be Notre Dame’s ninth appearance in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The Irish participated in the tournament for six consecutive years from 1991-96, finishing tied for third in 1992. The Notre Dame men hold an overall record of 11-15 in the tournament.
