Notre Dame Men's Soccer Ranked 21st In NSCAA Poll

Sept. 3, 2001

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the first time since the first two weeks of the 1999 campaign, the Notre Dame men’s soccer team finds itself ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll as the Irish stand 21st.

The Irish, under first-year head coach Bobby Clark, opened up the 2001 campaign with a 5-0 win at home against BIG EAST rival Villanova. The five-goal margin was the largest in a season opener for Notre Dame since the 1995 campaign when they opened up with a 8-0 win over DePaul.

Notre Dame, which is third in the NSCAA Great Lakes regional ranking this week, was last ranked two seasons ago when Irish stood 16th in the first two polls of the ’99 campaign. In addition to the Irish, four other BIG EAST teams are ranked in the top 25 -St. John’s (3rd), Connecticut (7th), Rutgers (10th) and Seton Hall 18th).
