Senior forward Ryan Cox scored the game?s only goal at 65:56 to lift the Notre Dame men?s soccer team to a 1-0 win IUPUI Tuesday night at Alumni Field. The Irish out shot the Jaguars 25-5 but IUPUI goalkeeper Armando Fernia made eight saves to keep the Jaguars within one goal.

Senior goalkeeper Gerick Short made three saves to record his fifth shutout of the season. Notre Dame improves to 6-4-1 with its third consecutive win, while IUPUI falls to 6-4-1. The Irish return to action when they play host to Providence in a BIG EAST matchup on Sat., Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Field.

Cox set up his goal by dribbling past midfield before passing the ball to freshman Erich Braun. Cox then made a run down the right side toward the box and Braun slipped the ball through the IUPUI backline to Cox, who dribbled into the ball and scored from 15 yards out on the right side past a charging Fernia for his second goal of the season. Braun?s assist was his second to go with five goals for a team-leading 12 points.

The Irish took a 13-2 advantage in shots into halftime and had a 12-3 advantage in the second half. Notre Dame had a number of scoring opportunities but could get the ball past Fernia just once. The Irish were whistled for 12 fouls to IUPUI?s 10. The Jaguars? Patrick King and Justin Hines and Notre Dame?s Connor LaRose each were issued yellow card as were both benches.
