Notre Dame Men's Lacrosse Releases 2018 Schedule

Jan. 4, 2018

By Robby Hamman

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse program and Baumer Family Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Kevin Corrigan released the 2018 schedule, a 12-game slate that features seven games at Arlotta Stadium and Loftus Sports Center.

“We’re thrilled to play one of the best schedules in the country again this year,” said Corrigan. “Between our always-tough conference games and the most difficult non-conference schedule around, we will need to compete at our highest level week in and week out. We love that challenge and look forward to the 2018 season.”

The Irish have reached eight consecutive NCAA Championship quarterfinals entering the 2018 campaign. Notre Dame is set to return 16 monogram winners, including six starters and seven of its top eight point leaders from the 2017 roster.

FRONT-LOADED HOME SLATE

Five of the first six games of the regular-season schedule will take place at Notre Dame. The Irish open the 2018 season with two home contests against Detroit (Feb. 11) and Richmond (Feb. 24). Notre Dame then has a pivotal three-game homestand against Denver (March 10), Virginia (March 17) and Michigan (March 21).

B1G NON-CONFERENCE BATTLES

Three of Notre Dame’s eight non-conference games will be played against teams from the Big Ten. The Irish will play both the teams from last season’s NCAA title game on the road, as they travel to Maryland (March 3) and Ohio State (March 25). Notre Dame also hosts Michigan in a midweek matinee (March 21). The Irish played all three teams in the regular season in 2017 and went 3-0 against the opposition.

ROAD WORK AHEAD

The Irish have five road games on the 2018 schedule, all coming against teams that played in the 2017 NCAA tournament. The first road test of the season comes at Maryland on March 3, as the Irish take on the defending champions Maryland in College Park, Maryland. Notre Dame has a tough road swing at the end of March, as the team travels to Ohio State (March 25) and then to Syracuse (March 31) for an important ACC showdown. Notre Dame is also slated to take on Marquette (April 11) in a rematch of last season’s NCAA tournament first round game. The Irish will wrap up its regular-season road schedule with a game against North Carolina (April 21), a team that Notre Dame split the season series with last year.

REGULAR SEASON HOME FINALE

The Irish seniors will take Arlotta Field for their final regular season game on May 5, as Notre Dame faces Army in the finale. The Irish will be looking for revenge, as the team fell at Army in the last regular-season game last year in overtime.

TOURNEY TIME

The annual ACC Tournament will be held on Virginia’s campus in Charlottesville, Virginia. The semifinal rounds will take place on Friday, April 27 with the championship game scheduled for Sunday, April 29. The Irish last claimed the ACC Tournament crown in 2014 and made it to the title game last season.

PRESEASON EXHIBITIONS

There will be a couple of preseason scrimmages against other opponents in late January and early February. The opponents and dates are yet to be announced.
