NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s golf team registered a 305 (+17) in the second day of the NCAA Central Regional Friday at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind. The team has a 603 (+27) 36-hole total and freshman Nicole Zhang (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) remains atop the Irish leader board with a two-day total of 149 (+5).
The Irish had a 12:20 p.m. (ET) tee time Friday, which presented gusty winds and firm and fast greens for the golfers. Despite those conditions the Irish managed a fourth-place finish on the day.
Senior captain Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading) and freshman Kristina Nhim (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) led the Irish on the day with a three-over par 75. Conway improved upon her first-round score by one stroke and is tied for 21st place, while Nhim improved by two strokes and is tied for 29th place.
Junior Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton) is also tied for 29th place after she registered a 77 (+5) in the second round. For the second day in a row Huffer has birdied the 14th hole, while bogeying the seventh and eighth holes.
Beginning on the back nine, Zhang remained at one-under par until the 12th hole where she bogeyed the 12th and 13th holes, which placed her at one-over par. The freshman registered birdies on the 10th and 15th holes to highlight the round. She finished the day with a six-over par 78.
Senior So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep. Academy) recorded an 80. Park remained consistent on holes two through seven as she remained on par.
UCLA remains in first place at 592 (+16), followed by LSU and Minnesota in a tie for second place with 598 (+22) and Notre Dame is in fourth place at 603 (+27).
Park tees off of the 10th hole for the Irish Saturday at 9:06 a.m. to begin the final round of the 2011 NCAA Central Regional.
