Notre Dame In Eighth Place After 36 Holes At Prestigious Shoot-out At The Legends

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team is in eighth place at the Shoot-out at the Legends of Indiana after the first two rounds of play on Monday, October 6. The Irish fired a six-over par 294 in the second round to finish with a 26-over par 602 (308-294). Notre Dame sits 22 strokes behind tournament-leader Kent State, which shot a pair of 289’s for a two-over par total of 578. The 54-hole tournament is comprised of 18 teams and is being played at the par-72, 6,207-yard golf course at the Legends of Indiana in Indianapolis.

With its round of 294, Notre Dame has now carded three rounds of 300 or better this season with the other two instances coming in the first and final rounds at the season-opening Cougar Classic (285, a school record, and 300). Prior to the ’03-’04 season, the Irish had only achieved a score of 300 or better twice before in school history, a 295 at the 1997 Midwest Classic and a 297 at the 2003 Snowbird Invitational.

Sophomore Katie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) and freshman Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates HS) are leading Notre Dame as they are both tied in 15th place with a three-over par 147. Brophy recorded rounds of 75 and even-par 72 while Nakazaki had scores of 73 and 74 on day one. The two Irish leaders are four strokes behind Indiana’s Danah Ford who is in first place after shooting a 36-hole total of 143 (73-70).

Scores for the remaining Notre Dame golfers were not available at press time on Monday.

The final 18 holes of the Shoot-out at the Legends will be played Tuesday. The final round will get underway with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. (EST).
