Notre Dame Hosts Two ACC Opponents This Weekend

April 3, 2014

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team hosts ACC foes Maryland and Pittsburgh this weekend at Eck Tennis Pavilion. The No. 20 Irish will take on Maryland Friday at 4:00 p.m. and then end the weekend against Pittsburgh on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

The Irish are heading into this weekend coming off two 7-0 sweeps against Marquette and Wake Forest. Both sweeps came at a great time as Notre Dame uses them as fuel down the stretch of the regular season.

In both matches, the eighth-ranked doubles duo of senior Britney Sanders and sophomore Quinn Gleason have led the way to give the Irish confidence. Head coach Jay Louderback likes what he sees and knows there is always room for improvement.

“Our doubles are getting better but we still have a chance to improve by tournament time. Britney and Quinn are playing well but really have played well all year,” Louderback explains. “You can see in their matches they have become more comfortable playing together. I think their biggest improvement has been in their ability to stay calm and not panic if they get down early in a match.”

As the regular season is starting to wind down, the Irish look to capture two conference victories and improve their 10-8 (3-6) record. Maryland is coming into the weekend 5-9 (1-7) on the season, while Pittsburgh is 4-9 (0-9).

“Every match we have left to play provides an opportunity to improve on our conference finish and will help determine both our ACC and NCAA tournament draw,” adds Louderback.

Live stats and streaming of tomorrow’s match will be available on UND.com, as well as posted results after the action.
