Notre Dame Freshman Class Ranked Eighth By Inside Lacrosse

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The incoming freshman class for the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team has been ranked eighth nationally according to the September issue of Inside Lacrosse. The Irish also boast three of the top-100 freshmen in the magazine’s ranking of the 2007 rookie class.

Notre Dame will welcome in a solid 11-man freshman class to a team that went 11-4 last season and earned the program’s 12th NCAA Tournament berth. The Irish also captured the 2007 Great Western Lacrosse League title.

Midfielder Zach Brenneman (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) was ranked 31st in the first-ever Inside Lacrosse Power 100 incoming freshman rankings. Fellow Irish rookie Kevin Ridgway (Kensington, Md./Georgetown Prep), a defenseman, was ranked 43rd, while his prep teammate William Maloney (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep), a midfielder, was tabbed as the 96th top freshman.

The other members of the Irish’s nationally-ranked class are Timothy Bemer (D) (Strafford, Pa./Malvern Prep), Thomas Connor (A/M) (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick School), David Earle (M) (Simsbury, Conn./Westminster School), Andrew Irving (LSM) (McLean, Va./The Hotchkiss School (Conn.)), Patrick Maloney (M) (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep), Jake Marmul (M) (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central), Daniel Schmitt (LSM/D) (Palatine, Ill./Fremd High School) and Taylor Tripucka (M) (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes).

Virginia’s class was ranked No. 1 as the Cavaliers had four of the top-five ranked freshmen. Maryland, Georgetown, Duke and Syracuse round out the top five classes.
