NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team entered the final round of the Lady Irish Invitational on Sunday with a one-stroke lead, yet could not hold on as Cincinnati registered a 303 (+15) on the day and a 919 overall to place first. The Fighting Irish carded a 313 during Sunday’s third and final round at the par 72, 6,003-yard Warren Golf Course to finish with a 54-hole total of 925 to place second. Notre Dame senior Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) led the team with an eighth-place finish by shooting a 14-over par 230 (74-76-80).
Hillery Wilson made it a clean sweep for Cincinnati as she took home medalist honors with a two-over par 218 (77-69-72). She fired the low round of the tournament, a three-under par 69 during Saturday’s second round. Eastern Michigan’s Stephany Fleet was the runner-up with a 221 (73-76-72), while Toledo’s Kim Kester rounded out the top-three with a 225 (75-74-76).
Sophomore Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Collegiate Parkside Institute) led the Irish on Sunday with a three-over par 75 to finish tied for 11th with a 232 (76-81-75). Joining Maunu at that spot was her freshman teammate Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, N.Y./Hilton Head Prep) (81-72-79), whose even-par 72 during the second round was the best mark of the tournament for Notre Dame.
Fellow freshman Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) finished with a 235 (77-79-79) and in a tie for 23rd. Senior Stacy Brown (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) completed the Irish scoring lineup as she shot a 243 (79-79-85), which placed her in a tie for 38th out of the 73-golfer field.
Notre Dame junior Jane Lee (Atlanta, Ga./Peninsula) was playing as an individual entrant and she registered a 238 (81-74-83) to finish tied for 28th.
