NOTRE DAME, Ind. — On a 60-degree spring day at Frank Eck Stadium, the University of Notre Dame baseball team was unable to capitalize on its strong pitching performance, suffering a 2-0 loss to Northwestern.

Notre Dame (14-19) senior Charlie Vorsheck started and allowed two early runs to the Wildcats (9-17), but Cameron Brown entered in relief and quickly stymied Northwestern. The Irish bullpen’s scoreless showing was not enough, however, as the Irish offense came up short with just five hits.

How It Happened

Northwestern’s Jack Dunn got the offense started in the first inning with a single to right. Dunn stole second and advanced to third on a groundout. Jack Claeys connected for a two-out, RBI-single to put the Wildcats up, 1-0.

In the second inning, Leo Kaplan singled and advanced to third before adding to Northwestern’s lead on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. That was all the Wildcats needed to secure the win.
