Notre Dame Faces Off Against Kentucky Again This Weekend

Jan. 31, 2014

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — It was less than a week ago that the 29th-ranked University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team upset No. 8 Kentucky in the regional finals of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, held on Kentucky’s home courts.

In just two days, the Irish and the Wildcats will face off again, this time at home for Notre Dame at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. The two teams are closer in rankings now-Kentucky fell to No. 13 and Notre Dame was vaulted to No. 22-but it would be hard for the match to get any closer than it has been in previous meetings.

“We are really excited for what we know will be a great match on Sunday,” says head coach Ryan Sachire. “The last three matches that we have played against Kentucky have been 4-3 and have come down to the last match on the court. We have a great deal of respect for their players and coaches, and we are preparing for this match to be another epic contest.”

The Irish come into the match undefeated, having gone 5-0 in their opening matches of the season. Kentucky is 5-1 on the season, having only lost to Notre Dame and also claiming a quality win over Duke during the season’s opening weekend. In the all time series between the two programs, Notre Dame is 14-15-1.

The match gets started at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. Fans can follow the action on live stats, provided on UND.com.
