NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team has been selected to the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships. The Irish have been in the bracket of 64 every season since 1995, and this year they are one of eight teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference to earn a bid.

Notre Dame will travel to Northwestern University for the first and second rounds of competition. The Irish will face the DePaul women’s tennis team at noon on Friday, May 9. Should Notre Dame win, they will advance to the second round to play the winner of Northwestern and Miami (Ohio)’s match.

“This will be a new experience since we usually play DePaul during the year in the BIG EAST,” says head coach Jay Louderback. “We haven’t faced any of the teams in the regional, which a good thing. Miami (Ohio), DePaul and Northwestern all won their conference tournaments, so it should be exciting.”

Notre Dame is currently ranked 27th in the country, with DePaul sitting at 46th and Northwestern at 16th. The top seeds in the tournament consist of No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Virginia and No. 4 Duke.

The Irish are coming off their first-ever ACC Championship last weekend, where they made it to the quarterfinals before falling to Miami (Florida).
