CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Irish men’s tennis team turned in a dominating performance versus Alabama on day two of the Harvard Invitational (Saturday, Oct. 10). Notre Dame posted a 6-1 mark in singles play and added a 2-1 record in doubles competition against the Crimson Tide. A day earlier (Friday, Oct. 9), the Irish posted a 5-4 singles mark and a 2-2 doubles record versus competition from Harvard.
Through two days of action, Notre Dame has been led by sophomores Casey Watt (Gibsonia, Pa.) and Sam Keeton (Kansas City, Mo.) as well as freshman Michael Moore (Glenview, Ill.). The trio has combined to post a 6-0 mark in singles play through two rounds of action, while Watt and Keeton have each contributed to a doubles triumph as well.
Against Alabama, Watt line up at the No. 1 position and took out Ricky Doverspike 6-4, 7-6. From the No. 5 slot, Keeton outlasted Alabama’s Trey Walston, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2, to stay unbeaten in singles play. Moore claimed two straight-set wins on Friday and Saturday, including a win over Alabama’s Creighton Blanchard (6-2, 6-2) from the No. 6 position.
Complete results from the first two days are listed below. Notre Dame closes out the Harvard Invitational tomorrow, Oct. 11 when it faces opposition from the University of Minnesota. Upon completion of the three-day event, an All-Tournament team will be announced. Play is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
