Notre Dame Continues Road Swing At In-State Rival Purdue

Nov. 2, 2011

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team continues its fall road trip this Friday as it heads to West Lafayette, Ind., for a dual meet with in-state rival Purdue.

Notre Dame is looking for a bit of revenge after last season’s close 155-145 loss to the Boilermakers at Rolfs Aquatic Center. The meet came down to the final relay, with Purdue barely touching the wall first. The Irish last defeated the Boilermakers during the 2008-09 season at Rolfs, 189-111.

The Boilermakers (1-0) knocked off Miami (Ohio), 175-117, on Oct. 21.

The Irish (3-1) are coming off a 185-115 victory at BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh. Notre Dame won 13 of the 16 events in the meet, with freshman Emma Reaney winning both the 200 breast and 200 IM. Fellow freshmen Suzanne Bessire (200 free), Bridget Casey (200 fly) and Hannah Bowen (50 free) also picked up wins.

Notre Dame also had a strong showing on the boards, as veteran Jenny Chiang and freshman Allison Casareto took the top two spots in both the one and three-meter dives. Chiang won the 3-meter dive and took second in the 1-meter dive, while Casareto claimed the 1-meter crown and second in the 3-meter.

They will continue their road trip next weekend with a dual meet at reigning BIG EAST Champion Louisville on Saturday.
