GREENSBORO, N.C. – Day two of the 2010 NCAA East Regional Championships at the Irwin R. Belk Stadium on the campus of North Carolina A&T continued Friday for the Notre Dame track and field team as the Irish fared well in four events. Three top-20 finishes were shelved by the Irish including a 13th-place performance by Joanna Schultz in the 400m hurdles. Denes Veres led the way for the Irish by finishing 11th in the men’s shot put.

In the first year of the new regional format, Notre Dame joins all 200 colleges and universities east of the Mississippi in the East Preliminary Round that includes over 2,500 athletes. The top 48 athletes from the region in their respective event were selected to participate in the first round with 12 advancing to the final site. There is no team score this year as the meet will only be used to qualify those specific athletes for the NCAA Championships.

Results for the steeplechase were not available as weather postponed the event.

Women’s 100m Hurdles: Nevada Sorenson (13.76) was 32nd in the event.

Women’s 400m Hurdles: Coming in 13th overall was Schultz, who finished the race in 57.79.

Men’s 800m Run: Jack Howard (1:48.87) was 16th among the field.

Men’s Shot Put: Veres was 11th with a best toss of 17.90mq (58-08.75). Behind him was John Belcher in 40th after landing the rock at 16.52m (54.02-50) and Andrew Hills was one spot behind with a 16.34m (53-07.50) attempt.
