Notre Dame Continues Competition At Dual Texas Meets

AUSTIN, Texas — Despite the occasional flurries in South Bend this weekend, the University of Notre Dame track and field teams are kicking off their outdoor seasons in the warmth of Texas at the Texas Relays.

Highlights of Friday’s competition included junior Jade Barber placing seventh in the preliminaries of the women’s 100m hurdles, qualifying for the finals. She finished with a time of 13.21.

The women’s 4x400m relay team also placed first in the preliminary event, with Barber, senior Michelle Brown, junior Amber Lalla and sophomore Margaret Bamgbose finishing in 3:34.71 and qualifying for the finals.

Junior Emily Morris also placed second in the final of the women’s shot put section B with a throw of 15.42m.

Elsewhere in the state, another portion of the Irish team is competing at the Victor Lopez Classic in Houston. Christopher Quinn finished in first place in the finals of the men’s 1,500m in a personal best of 3:51.70. In the 3,000m steeplechase, freshman Jacob Dumford placed second with a time of 9:20.52. In the men’s 5,000m, Patrick Lesiewicz placed second in 14:42.22.
