Notre Dame Chooses Brey

July 14, 2000

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame will introduce Mike Brey as its seventeenth head coach of men’s basketball today at a 6 p.m. ET press conference.

After interviews with Oregon’s Ernie Kent and former Seton Hall coach P.J. Carlesimo, Notre Dame athletic director extended an offer to the former Delaware coach, which he could not refuse.

Brey interviewed for the position late on Thursday evening. He signed a seven-year deal with the Irish, the financial terms of which were not disclosed.

In his five years at Delaware, he led his team to a 99-52 record. Last year, he coached the team to its first NIT bid.
