Notre Dame Baseball Summer Leagues Update

NOTRE DAME, Ind. –

With almost all collegiate baseball summer leagues now under way, many Notre Dame players have seen solid playing time for their respective squad. Below is an update on how the Irish are faring thus far.

California League

Brayden Ashdown, Cornejo Oaks (7-2, 2nd): Has seen action in seven games, including four starts … batting .200 (3-for-15) with two runs scored, one home run and one RBI … his solo home run came in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Oaks a 2-1 victory over the Santa Barbara Foresters (June 10).

Ryne Intlekofer, Cornejo Oaks (7-2, 2nd): Has played in and started all nine games … batting .294 (10-for-34) with eight runs scored, two doubles and three RBI … has also added two stolen bases in three attempts … fourth on the team in hitting, third in runs scored and third in hits … ninth in the league in hitting, fifth in runs scored, tied for fifth in hits and tied for ninth in total bases (12).

Matt Scioscia, Cornejo Oaks (7-2, 2nd): Has played in and started all nine games (at DH, C and 1B) … batting .333 (11-for-33) with three runs scored, three doubles and nine RBI … has also drawn four walks … second on the team in hitting, tied for first in hits and second in RBI … sixth in the league in hitting, 10th in slugging (.424), 10th in on-base percentage (.410), tied for second in hits, third in RBI, tied for fourth in doubles and tied for sixth in total bases (14).

Joe Spizzirri, MLB Urban Youth Academy (1-6, 5th): Has appeared in three games, including one start … sports an 0-2 record with a 9.95 earned run average in 6.1 innings of work … has allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits … has struck out three and walked two.

Cape Cod League

Evan Danieli, Falmouth Commodores (2-2, t-2nd Western): Has pitched in one game in relief … worked 2.0 innings and did not allow a run on two hits … struck out three, walked none and hit one batter … opponents are hitting .250 against him.

Brian Dupra, Harwich Mariners (3-1, t-1st Eastern): Has pitched in two games out of the bullpen … sports a 1-0 record with a 3.86 earned run average … has surrendered 10 hits in 7.0 innings of work, but has also struck out five and walked just one … registered the victory against Bourne (June 14) in 3.1 innings of relief with three strikeouts and no walks (allowed two earned runs on five hits).

A.J. Pollock, Falmouth Commodores (2-2, t-2nd Western): Has started all four games in centerfield and in the leadoff spot … is tied for the team-lead with a .375 batting average (6-for-16) … also leads the club with seven runs scored, six hits (tied), one double (tied) and two stolen bases (tied) … leads the league in runs scored and tied for 10th in hitting … registered a pair of multi-hit games, including three-hit (also three runs) effort against Brewster (June 18) … tied for league-lead in innings pitched.

Ryan Sharpley, Hyannis Mets (2-2, t-2nd Western): Has pitched in one game out of the bullpen … stands 0-0 with a 3.00 earned run average in 3.0 innings of work … has allowed two hits and one earned run … struck out seven and walked one … second on team in strikeouts … opponents are batting only .200 against him.

Coastal Plains League

Matt Katich, Forest City Owls (11-5, 1st West): Has played in and started seven games (all at C) … batting .250 (6-for-24) with six runs scored, one double and two RBI … has committed just one error in 65 chances behind the plate … has thrown out two of 14 stolen base attempts.

Herman Petzold, Florence RedWolves (13-3, 1st South): Has played in and started 11 games (predominantly at 2B) … batting .333 (14-for-42) with seven runs scored, one double and 13 RBI … leads the team in RBI and fourth in hitting.

Great Lakes League

Cole Johnson, Stark County Terriers (4-1, 1st): Has appeared in one game and started … sports a 1-0 record with 0.00 earned run average in 4.0 innings of work … allowed just one hit and one walk, along with two strikeouts … opponents are batting just .091 against him … combined with another pitcher to register shutout (W, 1-0) over Cincinnati Steam.

Cameron McConnell, Delaware Cows (4-2, 2nd): Has appeared in two games and started both … batting .333 (2-for-6) with a pair of singles … started the season opener (W, 2-0 over Grand Lake Mariners) and went 2-for-2.

Great South League

Eric Maust, Mentium Athletics: No statistics available.

Jayhawk League

Ty Adams, Hays Larks (8-5, t-3rd): Has played in seven games and started six (all in left field) of their 13 games … picked up two hits in first 21 at-bats … also scored a run.

Billy Boockford, Hays Larks (8-5, t-3rd): Has started all 13 games of their games in right field … only player to not only start every game, but also only player to appear in every game … batting .306 (15-for-49) with a home run and four RBI … leads team with 12 runs scored and eight walks … has even added two stolen bases.

Mick Doyle, Joplin Splashers (2-7, 7th): No statistics available.

Steven Mazur, Hays Larks (8-5, t-3rd): Has appeared in six games out of the bullpen (serving as the team’s closer) … sports an 0-0 record with a 2.08 earned run average and one save … has allowed five hits in 8.2 innings … also struck out 16 and walked just three, while opponents are hitting only .167 against him.

New England League

Matt Grosso, Manchester Silkworms (5-4, 3rd Southern): Has appeared in and started eight games (LF and DH) … batting .469 (15-for-32) with five runs scored, five doubles and five RBI … leads the team in hitting, slugging percentage (.625), on-base percentage (.485), hits, RBI (tied), doubles and total bases (20) … leads the league (minimum 30 at-bats) in hitting, hits and doubles … also third in the league in total bases.

Greg Sherry, Vermont Mountaineers (2-6, 6th Northern): Has appeared and started six games (SS and 2B) … batting .050 (1-for-20) with a double and RBI … perfect 2-for-2 in stolen bases … added three walks.

New York League

Will Harford, Geneva Red Wings (4-5, 5th West): Has appeared in five games and started two (2B) … batting .167 (2-for-12) with a pair of singles and run scored.

Eddy Mendiola, Geneva Red Wings (4-5, 5th West): Has appeared in and started all seven games (3B and RF) … batting .308 (8-for-26) with two doubles and two RBI … also a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases … ranks second on the team in hitting, hits and total bases (10) … drawn four walks and leads the club in on-base percentage (.400).

Northwoods League

Jeremy Barnes, Wisconsin Woodchucks (16-3, 1st South): Has appeared in 11 games (predominantly at DH), but has also started games at 1B, 2B and OF … batting .176 (6-for-34) with seven runs scored, one double, one home run and three RBI … he has also added a sacrifice fly, three stolen bases and seven walks.

David Casey, Green Bay Bullfrogs (8-12, 4th South): Has appeared in 11 games (predominantly at DH) … batting .200 (7-for-35) with one run scored, one double and two RBI.

Evan Sharpley, Battle Creek Bombers (6-14, 7th South): Has appeared in 14 games … batting .241 (14-for-58) with eight runs scored, four doubles, one triple, one home run and 11 RBI … leads the team in RBI, home runs (tied), triples (tied) and ranks third in doubles and slugging percentage (.397, minimum 50 at-bats) … drilled a three-run home run in the 5-0 season-opening victory over Waterloo (May 29).
