Notre Dame Baseball Squanders Seventh Inning 7-0 Lead; Lose 10-8 To Texas-Pan American

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Texas Pan-American rallied from a 7-0 deficit heading into the seventh inning and held on to beat Notre Dame, 10-8, in college baseball action from the Irish Classic Sunday afternoon. The Irish were looking for their third straight victory, but drop to 7-7 on the year.

Sophomore Eric Maust held the Broncos scoreless over the first six innings, but ran into trouble in the seventh. After allowing consecutive doubles, Maust was removed and the Notre Dame bullpen was unable to hold a 7-1 lead.

Maust went 6.0+ innings and scattered nine hits. He allowed just two earned runs and struckout five. Maust did not issue a walk.

Junior Brett Graffy replaced Maust and faced three batters, allowing a pair of singles and issuing a walk (all three runners would eventually score).

Freshman Cole Johnson was charged with the loss and dropped to 0-1 on the season. He tossed 1.0 inning and allowed three earned runs on four hits.

Evan Sharpley, Jeremy Barnes, Sean Gaston and Billy Boockford each had a couple hits. Ross Brezovsky also added a solo home run.

The Irish return for their home opener against Central Michigan Monday. First-pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
