Aug. 22, 2016

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s swimming and diving program has announced the 2016-17 schedule.

Second-year head coach Mike Litzinger will oversee both the men’s and women’s program as they compete as one unit for the first time since 1995.

Litzinger and his staff are excited for a schedule that has the team getting an early season start.
“I am excited to be leading the new look Notre Dame Swimming & Diving team,” Litzinger said. “Being combined for the first time in 20-plus years adds to the energy both of our teams have generated in 2016.”

The team will get started by travelling to East Lansing, Michigan to face Michigan State and Iowa on Sept. 30 at the Charles McCaffree Pool.

The home season kicks off at the Rolfs Aquatic Center on Oct. 7 for the traditional Dennis Stark Relays. Named for the first head coach of both teams, this year’s meet will be the 52nd of its kind. The busy fall season will also include the 100th Anniversary of the Monogram Club weekend with a home meet versus Miami, Purdue and Rutgers on Oct. 28.

Two away meets in November include a trip to Greensboro, North Carolina for the Greensboro Invitational on Nov. 17-19 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, giving the team a chance to swim where the 2017 ACC Championships will be held.

The Irish start the new year welcoming a couple of Big Ten programs, Illinois and Iowa, to the Rolfs Aquatics Center for a two-day affair Jan. 12-13.

Another highlight of the new year will be the Shamrock Invitational meet, which will include Ohio State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri State and Grand Canyon. The two-day event is scheduled for Jan. 27-28 and will be the biggest meet the Irish host at home in this season.

The team’s last regular season meet for the season will be a trip north to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Michigan First Chance Invite.

The ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships will take place on February 15-18 in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The men’s team will then compete from Feb. 22-25 for the ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, which will also be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

“The ACC Championship meet will be as competitive as ever and I am looking for our team to make significant improvement at that competition.”

The Women’s NCAA Championships will be held on March 15-18 down state in Indianapolis, Indiana and the Men’s NCAA Championships will be held March 22-28, also in Indianapolis.
