Kali Krisik advanced to the finals of the Midwest Regional Doubles Championship Sunday.

No. 5 Irish Women's Tennis Tops No. 43 Utah, 7-0

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The fifth-ranked Irish women’s tennis team topped No. 43 Utah, 7-0, Sunday in Salt Lake City.

The Irish swept the doubles matches to get out to a 1-0 lead. Cosmina Ciobanu and Kristy Frilling defeated Anastasia Putilina and Lexi Provancha, 8-2, before Shannon Mathews and Colleen Rielley downed Leigh Walsh and Lisa Johnson, 8-4, to clinch the doubles point. No. 2 Kali Krisik and Kelcy Tefft topped Erin Monson and Andrea Maughan, 8-2, to complete the sweep.

Kristen Rafael put the Irish up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Johnson at No. 3 singles. Matthews downed Karine Bourdages, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6 singles, before Ciobanu knocked off Provancha, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5 to clinch the win for the Irish.

Krisik defeated Walsh, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4 singles, while No. 59 Tefft downed Putilina, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1. No. 82 Frilling defated Monson, 6-7 (7-1), 6-3, 10-5, at No. 2 singles.

The Irish improve to 9-1 on the season, while Utah falls to 3-4.

Notre Dame will host North Carolina Friday at 3 p.m. at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
