April 3, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 43 Notre Dame men’s team gets its first taste of outdoor action at Courtney Tennis Center this season on Wednesday as it hosts BIG EAST rival DePaul in a 4 p.m. matchup.

The Irish (14-7, 1-1 BIG EAST) are coming off a pair of Saturday victories over Ball State (6-1) and St. Bonaventure (7-0) and are 10-2 at home on the year. Appearing in the singles rankings for the Irish is sophomore Greg Andrews (No. 52), who is 18-3 this season with 16 of those victories coming at two. In the doubles rankings, seniors Casey Watt and Niall Fitzgerald find themselves 69th, with the duo posting a 6-7 record together during the spring season.

In conference play so far, Notre Dame defeated Marquette 6-1 at home, before falling 4-3 on the road at USF. Playing at No. 1 singles, Watt is 2-0 in BIG EAST play this year.

DePaul (11-12) is coming off two losses to ranked foes South Alabama (No. 57) and Georgia State (No. 71) at the Sun Belt Shootout last weekend. Filip Dzanko leads the charge for the Blue Demons with a 17-3 overall mark, including 13-3 at one. Going back and forth between one and two singles, George Chanturia is 13-10 this spring season.

The Blue Demons have never beaten the Irish, as Notre Dame sports a 26-0 record all-time record against the Chicago school, with the last victory coming in 2008 in the BIG EAST tournament.
