No. 30 Notre Dame Plays Host To No. 41 Northwestern Tuesday

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Coming off a pair of 7-0 sweeps over Marquette and Western Illinois this past Saturday to open the 2013 spring season, the No. 30 University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team returns to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when the Irish welcome No. 41 Northwestern to Eck Tennis Pavilion.

Notre Dame opened the spring season 2-0 after taking down the Golden Eagles and Leathernecks Saturday. Fourteen student-athletes saw action, with all 14 picking up either a singles or doubles victory. Junior Greg Andrews earned a pair of singles wins and a doubles victory, while Quentin Monaghan picked up two singles victories. Andrews’ doubles partner Spencer Talmadge won at No. 1 doubles in both matches.

The Wildcats are off to a quick 4-0 start to the year as they knocked off Ball State (6-1) and Western Michigan (5-2) Jan. 13 and took down No. 34 Louisville (4-1) and Chicago State (6-0) Sunday.

The 2013 edition of this rivalry will be the 82nd time the two teams have met on the court, with the Irish holding a 44-36-1 advantage. Notre Dame has won nine straight, including a 5-2 decision last season in Evanston. Head coach Bobby Bayliss is 19-5 against the Wildcats since taking over the Irish program.

Following the match with the Wildcats, Notre Dame hits the road for a weekend in Norman, Okla. The Irish meet No. 28 Harvard Friday before playing either No. 8 Oklahoma or No. 33 Memphis Saturday.
