No. 3 Irish Women's Tennis Closes Out Six-Match Homestand Against Indiana

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The third-ranked Irish women’s tennis team will close out its six-match homestand Friday against No. 30 Indiana at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. Match time is set for 3:00 p.m.

Notre Dame carries a seven-match win streak into Friday’s contest and looks to improve to 11-1 on the season.

The Irish jumped four spots, from seventh to third, in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll. Notre Dame also saw changes in the latest individual rankings as sophomore Kristy Frilling moved up to the 14th singles position with a 10-1 record at No. 1 singles, including seven wins over ranked opponents. Freshman Chrissie McGaffigan enters the national rankings for the first time in her career at No. 90 after compiling an 8-3 mark at third singles. Sophomore Shannon Mathews is ranked 92nd with a 7-4 record at No. 2.

Frilling and doubles partner senior Kali Krisik improved five spots to No. 3 in the rankings despite not playing together in the past two matches. Frilling and Krisik are undefeated this season at 9-0.

The Hoosiers are 10-2 this season and have won three straight, including a 6-1 win over then-No. 10 Tennessee. Indiana is led by freshman Leslie Hureau, who holds an 8-4 record and is ranked 102nd in the nation. The Hoosiers’ also bring in the 24th-ranked doubles duo of Lindsey Stuckey and Evgeniya Vertesheva.

Notre Dame leads the all-time series with Indiana, 13-10. The Irish have won the last seven matches against the Hoosiers and 13 of the last 14.
