March 9, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team will kick off its Spring Break slate with a double dose of Florida sunshine with matches against East Carolina and Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday.

The No. 26 Irish (7-4, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) will start the day with a 9 a.m. EDT contest with East Carolina (9-3) at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida. They will then travel two hours south to take on Florida Gulf Coast (2-8) at 5 p.m. EDT at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers, Florida. It will be the first outdoor action for Notre Dame this spring.

The Irish have enjoyed a nine-day hiatus since a 6-1 loss to No. 5 Virginia on March 1. Their Florida swing will kick off a stretch in which the Irish play four matches in five days.

East Carolina is 0-3 against the ACC this season, with losses to North Carolina State, Wake Forest and North Carolina. The Pirates play Central Florida today in Orlando before heading to take on the Irish.

The Eagles are likewise 0-3 against ACC opponents, with losses to Syracuse, Florida State and Miami. Their lone wins have come against Louisiana Tech and Florida Atlantic.
