MESA, Ariz. – After a suspension of play on the first day due to inclement weather, the No. 22 University of Notre Dame women’s golf team kicked off the second annual Clover Cup at the Longbow Golf Club with a two-round team score of 20-over-par 596 (298-298) to finish sixth in the field of 16.

No. 5 Oklahoma currently leads the field going into the final day on Sunday with a team score of six-under-par 570 (281-289) followed by SMU who sits in second with a team total of seven-over-par 583 (299-284). The Mustangs nevertheless claimed the top spot on the player leaderboard as Jenny Haglund leads the competition with a six-under-par 138 (71-67). Northwestern’s Hana Lee chases close behind with a five-under-par 139 (66-73). After the first rounds of play a total of nine players finished under par while two players fired an even par round.

“There were a lot of players that shot under par through the first two rounds, and that is the way we planned for it to be when we set up the course,” said head coach Susan Holt. “We wanted this to be a fun tournament with a lot of low scores and that was exactly what happened. I thought we played well and were in great position to shoot under par, but unfortunately we dropped off at the end. We have a lot of season left to go in the spring and are still hitting our stride as we work through the remaining tournaments. We are looking forward to our third and final day of the Clover Cup and making a run for a great finish.”

Lindsey Weaver, the Scottsdale, Ariz. native, currently leads the Irish with a one-over-par 145 (73-72), which is good for 12th place. Weaver kept her streak alive in shooting at least one round even or under par through all six tournaments this season.

Talia Campbell sits in a tie for 14th after firing a three-over-par 147 (73-74).

Ashley Armstrong wrapped up her 36-hole day with a five-over-par 149 (75-74) to tie for 21st place.

Kristina Nhim tied for 55th place after carding an 11-over-par 155 (77-78).

Kelli Oride shot a 15-over-par 159 (79-80) to tie for 74th place in the field of 94 participants.

The Irish are back in action Sunday morning beginning at 10 a.m. (ET) to cap off the final round of the 2013 Clover Cup.
