MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- The No. 20 Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team (3-0) had a steady final day of the Minnesota Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 19 in Minneapolis, Minn. in taking the invitational win over second-place Tennessee. The Irish totaled 889 points to edge the Tennessee by 83 points in the 41-events of competition.
Junior Katie Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) had another strong day as she won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:58.75. Carroll along with Megan Farrell (Hopkinton, Ma./Hopkinton), Christa Riggins (Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope) and Rebecca Grove (Yorktown Heights, NY./Yorktown) were also part of the 400-yard freestyle relay that finished third in a time of 3:26.38.
Riggins and Grove also had a solid individual meet in the 100-yard freestyle. Riggins finished third with her time of 50.47, while Grove placed eighth in a time of 52.52.
The Notre Dame 200-yard breaststroke group of senior Julia Quinn (Evanston, Ill./Evanston), freshman Vivian Healey (New York, N.Y./Stuyvesant) and freshman Ashlee Edgell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Madeira) did well individually. Quinn finished third in a time of 2:18.05, while Healey placed sixth (2:06.56) and Edgell finished eighth (2:08.93).
Ann Barton (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.55) and teammate Caroline Johnson (Springfield, Mo./Glendale) finished right behind her in third (2:03.68).
Claire Hutchinson (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) won the 1,650-yard freestyle (16.26.94) with teammate Casey Wagner (Glenshaw, Pa./Shady Side Academy) finishing second (16.43.01).
Junior Tara Hyer (Tampa, Fla./Academy of Holy Names) finished 15th in the platform dive with 163.85 points.
Next, Notre Dame sends the swimmers to the U.S. Open Swim on Nov. 30-Dec.3 and the divers to the Ohio State Invite from Dec. 1-3.
