Notre Dame had a pair of diver in the top 16 at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships

NOTRE DAME, Ind.- The No. 20 Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team (3-0) had a solid second day of the Minnesota Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 18 in Minneapolis, Minn. in taking the lead from second-place Wisconsin. The Irish have totaled 598 points to take a 26-point lead on the second-place Badgers after 27 events.

Junior Katie Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) had a pair of second place finishes on the afternoon. Carroll placed second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:14.99, which was also an NCAA “A” Standard. The junior also was the runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle 1:49.28.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Caroline Johnson (Springfield, Mo./Glendale), Julia Quinn (Evanston, Ill./Evanston), Jessica Stephens (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) and Christa Riggins (Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope) finished second in the event with a time of 1:43.83. Teammates Stacey Nedrud (Melbourne Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach), Vivian Healey (New York, N.Y./Stuyvesant), Ann Barton (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) and Rebecca Grove (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) also scored points in the event as they finished fifth in a time of 1:46.49.

Barton, Caroline Johnson, Stephens and Riggins also had solid individual showings. Caroline Johnson placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (56.84), Barton was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly (56.06) as Stephens finished sixth in the same event (56.66). Riggins also had the chance to race in the 200-yard freestyle and finished third in a time of 1:49.56.

Stephens continued her busy day by placing fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.39). Quinn finished just ahead of her teammate in the 100-yard breaststroke in fourth place with a time of 1:03.76.

Freshman Ashlee Edgell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Madeira) continued her strong meet with a lifetime best third- place finish in the 400-yard IM (4:19.97). Sophomore Claire Hutchinson (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) finished seventh in the same event in a time of 4:26.81. Megan Farrell (Hopkinton, Ma./Hopkinton) was the sixth-place finisher (1:50.98) in the 200-yard freestyle. Farrell was also the sixth-place finisher in the 200-yard freestyle.

Freshman diver Natalie Stitt (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) placed eighth in the one-meter diving with 215.65 points.

The Fighting Irish women will continue to compete in the Minnesota Invitational with the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 400-yard freestyle on Nov. 19 starting at 10 a.m.
