No. 20 Notre Dame Women's Swimming And Diving Are Second After First Day Of Minnesota Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind.- The No. 20 Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team (3-0) had a solid opening day on the first day of the Minnesota Invitational on Friday, Nov. 17 in Minneapolis, Minn. The Irish have totaled 245 points to trail the leader Wisconsin by nine points after the first 11 events.

Sophomore Casey Wagner (Glenshaw, Pa./Shady Side Academy) won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:49.89 to pace the Irish. Fellow sophomore Claire Hutchinson (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) finished third in the same event in a time of 4:52.95. Christa Riggins (Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope) also had the chance to race in the finals and finished seventh in a time of 4:54.20. She also competed and finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (24.10).

Junior Katie Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) finished as the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley in her time of 2:01.40. Freshman Ashlee Edgell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Madeira) placed third with a time of 2:02.29. Fellow freshman Megan Farrell (Hopkinton, Ma./Hopkinton) also raced in the finals and placed seventh in her time of 2:05.78.

Senior Rebecca Grove (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) was the fifth place finisher in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.84.

The 400-yard medley team of Caroline Johnson (Springfield, Mo./Glendale), Julia Quinn (Evanston, Ill./Evanston), Jessica Stephens (Bloomsburgh, Pa./Bloomsburgh) and Riggins finished fourth in the running of the event with their time of 3:49.22.

The Fighting Irish women will continue to compete in the Minnesota Invitational with the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 800-yard free relay and the women’s one-meter diving to be competed in.
