No. 2/3 Irish Open Dual Season at St. John's, NYU This Weekend

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame fencing team officially opens its 2013 dual season this weekend, making appearances Saturday at the St. John’s Invitational in Queens, N.Y., and Sunday at the NYU Invitational in New York, N.Y.

The Irish, ranked second in the women’s poll and third on the men’s side in the first CollegeFencing360 Coaches Poll of the season, take to the strip at the St. John’s Invitational at 10 a.m. (ET) Saturday against defending NCAA Champion Ohio State inside the Taffner Fieldhouse. Matches with Penn State (11:15) and Harvard (12:30 p.m.) set the stage for a 2:15 showdown with St. John’s on ESPN3 in Carnesecca Arena. The Irish wrap up the competition against Columbia at 3:30.

Notre Dame continues its New York swing Sunday with six rounds of competition at the NYU Invitational. The Irish are scheduled to meet Yale (round one, 8 a.m.), Columbia (round two, 9:15), North Carolina (men, round three, 10:30), Northwestern (women, round three, 10:30), St. John’s (round four, 11:45), NYU (round five, 1:30 p.m.) and Ohio State (round six, 2:45) during the competition.
