No. 17 Varsity Eight Crew Finishes Second To No. 10 Michigan State At Indiana Classic

Indianapolis, Ind. – The No. 17 Notre Dame women’s varsity eight crew finished second to No. 10 Michigan State at the Indiana Classic Rowing Regatta at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind. The varsity eight boat also crossed the finished line in second to the Spartan crew.

The Irish boat of Maureen Gibbons (cox), Natalie Ladine (stroke), Alice Bartek, Meghan Boyle, Rachel Polinski, Melissa Felker, Katie Chenoweth, Danielle Protasewich and Jacqueline Hazen finished in a time of 6:34.55, just over six seconds in back of Michigan State (6:28.49). Indiana crossed the finish line in third with a time of 6:46.40, while Purdue was second in 6:52. 61.

The second varsity boat of Kacy McCaffrey (cox), Kati Sedun (stroke), Kathleen Welsh, Elizabeth Specht, Jenna Redgate, Kathleen Welsh, Elizabeth Specht, Jenna Redgate, Jessica Guzik Andrea Doud, Ashley St. Pierre and Megan Sanders, also took second in its race to Michigan State. The Irish crew finished with a time of 6;47.38, seven seconds behind the Spartan boat which the course in 6:40.7. The first of two Purdue boats was third in 6:53.61, followed by the other Boilermaker boat which crossed the finish line in 7:03.91. Indiana was fifth in the race in 7:05.74.

Notre Dame’s varsity four crew of Kathryn Long (stroke), Katie O’Hara (stroke), Danielle Stealy, Pamela Jefson and Kristen Mizzi took second to Michigan State in that race. The Irish finished with a time of 7:19.17, less than five seconds in backk of the Spartan boat that was clocked in 7:14.62. Indiana took third in the three-boat race with a time of 7:47.96.

Notre Dame had two boats in the second varsity four race. The second varsity four crew of Shannon Lettieri (cox), Sarah Keefer (stroke), Tricia David, Courtney Quinn and Ann Mulligan were second to Michigan State. The Irish finished with a time of 7:59.33, while the Spartan boat was first in 7:50.2. Notre Dame’s other boat in the race consisted of Caitlin Rackish (cox), Meredith Thornburgh (stroke), Alyssa Close, Colleen Larson and Kristin Henkel as that crew posted a time of 8:00.91.

The Irish novice eight crew of Eileen Froehlke (cox), Sarah Kate Hafner (stroke), Beth Hatch, Danielle Potts, Ariel Klingaman, Shannon Cassel, Sarah Shaw, Meghan Chidsey and Colleen McCotter took fourth in its race with a time of 7:18.24. Michigan State was first in 7:05.16, followed by Purdue (7:14.09) and Indiana (7:16.76).

Notre Dame’s novice four boat of Maria Romano (cox), Audrey deGuire (stroke), Alicia Cooper, Samantha Glass and Kaitlin Sharkey was a victorious over Indiana’s boat as the Irish finished with a time of 8:04.7.
