NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 17 Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team improved to 3-0 in dual meet action this season by topping Michigan State 165-75 on Friday evening in the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The Fighting Irish took first in10 of 13 events en route to the dominating victory. Senior co-captain Ted Brown (Kokomo, Ind./Western) notched wins in the 200-yard free and 200-yard butterfly for the Irish.

Also posting wins for Notre Dame were Louis Cavadini (50 free), Sam Stoner (1-meter diving), Andrew MacKay (200 back), Jay Vanden Berg (500 free), Michael Bulfin (3-meter diving) and Tyler Angelo (200 breast) along with the 400-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays.

The Irish had a much easier time with the Spartans this season after edging out a 122.5-120.5 victory last year in East Lansing, Mich. Notre Dame is 3-0 in dual meet action for the first time since the 2001-2002 campaign.

The Irish will look to improve to 4-0 when they host BIG EAST Conference rival Pittsburgh tomorrow at noon in the Rolfs Aquatic Center.

400-Yard Medley Relay: The Irish opened the meet with a victory as Jeff Wood, Tim Kegelman, Louis Cavadini and John Lytle took first in a time of 3:25.88. Notre Dame also placed second with the quartet of Andrew MacKay, Nick Fanslau, Ray Toomey and Andrew Hoffman teaming up to post a mark of 3:28.19.

1,000-Yard Free: Michigan State’s Krzyszt Olszewski won the event in a time of 9:24.06, yet Notre Dame would take the next three spots. Freshman Andrew Deters placed second in 9:33.62, while Jay Vanden Berg (9:35.04) and Chris Zeches (9:43.31) took third and fourth, respectively.

200-Yard Free: Ted Brown registered his first of two wins for the Irish by touching the wall in 1:40.13. Michigan State’s Sho Koba placed second (1:41.05), while Notre Dame’s Rob Seery took third (1:43.14) and his teammate Brian Freeman was right behind him in fourth (1:43.45).

50-Yard Free: Notre Dame senior co-captain Louis Cavadini topped the field in a time of 21.26. His freshman teammate Andrew Hoffman followed him up in second (21.79) and fellow freshman Pat Lloyd was fourth (22.07).

200-Yard IM: Adam Schmitt took first for the Spartans with a time of 1:54.33. Notre Dame would once again claim three of the top five scoring spots as freshman Ross Moore was second in 1:54.50, senior Justin Barber was fourth (1:57.09) and Tim Kegelman was fifth (1:59.32).

1-Meter Diving: The Fighting Irish swept the first four spots, with Sam Stoner taking first with 318.52 points. Michael Bulfin was second (299.40), followed by Steven Crowe (264.90) and Scott Coyle (257.25).

200-Yard Fly: Ted Brown was victorious for the second time on the evening by clocking a time of 1:52.60. The Fighting Irish would take the next three spots as well with Andrew Deters (1:55.12), Justin Barber (1:56.75) and David Cavadini (1:57.61) taking second, third and fourth, respectively.

100-Yard Free: Adam Schmitt would win his second event of the night for the Spartans as he posted a mark of 45.52. Notre Dame took the next four spots with John Lytle (45.93), Nick Fanslau (47.14), Louis Cavadini (47.63) and Ray Toomey (47.86).

200-Yard Back: The Irish controlled yet another event by occupying the top four spots. Andrew MacKay was first in 1:54.29, followed by Alan Carter (1:56.01), Brian Freeman (1:56.27) and MacKenzie LeBlanc (1:56.85).

500-Yard Free: Jay Vanden Berg posted another victory on the season for the Irish by clocking a time of 4:36.19. He was followed by his teammate Jeff Wood in second (4:36.20) and Chris Zeches took fourth for Notre Dame (4:45.40).

3-Meter Diving: Michael Bulfin would make it a clean sweep for the Irish in the diving competitions by registering 332.10 points. Notre Dame would take the top four spots in all with Sam Stoner (313.72), Steven Crowe (285.45) and Chris Kane (276.00) placing second through fourth, respectively.

200-Yard Breast: Notre Dame freshman Tyler Angelo clocked the top time of 2:05.50, while swimming as an exhibition competitor. His teammate Daniel Rave was also an exhibition swimmer and placed second in 2:06.30. Freshman Ross Moore also swam exhibition for the Irish and placed third in 2:09.24.

200-Yard Free Relay: The Fighting Irish concluded the meet with yet another victory as Nick Fanslau, John Lytle, Andrew Hoffman and Tim Kegelman posted a time of 1:24.77. Notre Dame also took third with the quartet of Ray Toomey, Alan Carter, Ted Brown and Bill Bauman registering a time of 1:26.57.
