NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The No. 16/12 Notre Dame Swim and Dive teams were named Scholar All-America teams by the CSCAA for the Fall 2019 Semester, announced Wednesday. Both squads have been selected for the honor each semester of head coach Mike Litzinger’s tenure, which spans nine semesters.
Selected based on grade point averages from the previous semester of each and every member of the men’s and women’s teams, both squads turned in a GPA above 3.0, which qualified them for the award.
The Irish women posted a 3.48 GPA for Fall 2019, while the men marked a 3.23. With both teams in their respective CSCAA Top 25 polls, they contributed to a trend of success in and out of the pool for ranked teams. Ninety percent of the DI Top 25 teams were selected for the award.
“It’s a great tribute to our student-athletes that they’re recognized for their excellence in the pool and in the classroom,” Litzinger noted. “It shows that there’s much, much more than swimming laps and diving off a board — that these kids, they excel at a high level at both things, and it’s truly great for us to be able to work with those kinds of kids who are highly motivated to be very good in all facets of their lives.”
