No. 14 Women's Tennis Rolls Past Purdue 9-0

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The 14th-ranked Notre Dame women’s tennis team dropped only one set in singles and swept the doubles on the way to a 9-0 victory on the road over 57th-ranked Purdue on Wednesday afternoon. Notre Dame won its fourth straight match and improved to 9-1 since the beginning of March. The Irish improve to 16-5 on the season and registered their 33rd consecutive regular-season victory over Midwest Region opponents. Notre Dame will return to action on Sunday as they take on 15th-ranked William and Mary on the road at 10:30 a.m.

Jennifer Embry was the only Boilermaker to capture a set as she sent junior All-American and 16th-ranked Michelle Dasso to three sets before losing 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 at number one singles. Sophomore Becky Varnum defeated Shannon Taheny 6-4, 6-2 at number two. Third singles saw junior captain Kelly Zalinski beat Erika Quebe 6-3, 6-2 while sophomore Nina Vaughan defeated Melissa Iqbal 6-3, 7-6. Sophomore Lindsay Green came out on top against Lisa Walgenbach 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 and freshman Katie Cunha rounded out the sweep by beating Lynsey Fick 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles, the 24th-ranked team of Dasso and Varnum beat 20th-ranked Embry and Taheny 8-2 at number one doubles. Green and Zalinski defeated Fick and Walgenbach at No. 2 doubles while Cunha and Vaughan beat Iqbal and Quebe at number three 8-5.
