NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The 14th-ranked Notre Dame women’s tennis team improved to 7-1 this season with a 7-0 victory over Purdue Wednesday at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

The Irish jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the sweeping the doubles matches. At No. 2 doubles, Shannon Mathews and Colleen Rielley defeated Remi Martin and Jennifer Rabot, 8-5, while Cosmina Ciobanu and Katie Potts downed Anna Dushkina and Tatiana Ganzha, 8-4, at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point. Top-ranked Kelcy Tefft and Kristy Frilling defeated Stephanie Wooten and Michelle Sammons, 8-7, at No. 1 doubles.

Mathews moved the Irish ahead, 2-0, after she beat Martin, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. No. 39 Kristy Frilling defeated Wooten, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, to give Notre Dame a 3-0 lead. No. 45 Tefft took down Sammons, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to clinch the win for the Irish.

Potts won her first dual match of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Anna Dushkina at No. 6 singles. No. 62 Kristen Rafael defeated Tatiana Ganzha, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 3 singles, and Ciobanu downed Rabot, 4-6, 6-3 (10-6) to push the Irish to 7-0.

The Irish hit the road this weekend, taking on No. 42 BYU Saturday at noon (MT) and No. 51 Utah Sunday at 11 a.m. (MT).
