SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The University of Notre Dame rowing team recorded a pair of race victories Sunday to close the Lake Natoma Invitational in a tie for third place with No. 9 Stanford.
The No. 12 Irish collected seven points over the two days of competition to finish just two points behind No. 1 USC and one point behind No. 2 California.
Notre Dame’s first varsity eight launch, consisting of coxswain Abby Meyers, Joanna Poinsatte, Joanna Mulvey, Stephanie O’Neill, Courtney Gaberino, Erin Boxberger, Ailish Sheehan, Anna Kottkamp and Molly Bruggeman, set a new season-best time against No. 15 Wisconsin and No. 17 Washington State. The Irish logged an effort of 6:30.30 to earn the race win over the Cougars (6:35.40) and Badgers (6:38.50).
In the second varsity eight, coxswain Christina Dines, Paige Aiello, Teresa Blumenstein, Ingrid Woelfel, Carlee Beckler, Rose Doerfler, Kelsey Haddad, Kelsey Sekanick and Teresa Rubinger led Notre Dame to victory in 6:36.70. Wisconsin (6:39.00) and Washington State (6:46.00) finished in second and third place, respectively.
The Irish closed the weekend with a runner-up result in the varsity four race. Coxswain Danni Schneider, Kelsey Murphy, Ellen Gleadow, Stella Willoughby and Kiersten DeHaven completed the trek in 7:23.60 to finish just behind Washington State (7:20.00).
Notre Dame returns to the water April 26-27 at the Dale England Cup in Bloomington, Ind.
