No. 10 Irish Race For Second Straight Dale England Cup This Weekend

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame rowing team looks for its second consecutive win at the Dale England Cup this weekend on Lake Lemon in Bloomington, Ind. The Irish scored a total of 118 team points to claim the regatta victory at the 2013 Dale England Cup.

No. 10 Notre Dame is one of two ranked teams in the field, joining regatta host and No. 13 Indiana, Alabama and Rhode Island. Alabama was the third team in last year’s field along with Iowa, Notre Dame and Indiana.

The Irish return to the water after a weekend of competitive racing at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on April 19 in Belleville, Mich. against then No. 3 Ohio State and No. 9 Michigan. Along with Indiana at this weekend’s regatta, Notre Dame has now raced against eight teams ranked in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)/USRowing Coaches Poll this season.

The 2014 Dale England Cup gets underway on Friday with third varsity four racing at 4:30 p.m. (ET), featuring Notre Dame, Alabama and Rhode Island. The Irish will have entries in both the `A’ and `B’ heats of the second varsity four at 4:40 and 4:50, followed by the novice eight at 5:10.

Notre Dame’s first varsity four is scheduled to face Indiana at 5:30 in a dual race, with each team’s second varsity eight taking the water at 5:50 and first varsity eight set to close the session at 6:10.

Saturday’s morning session will begin with a pair of heats in the second varsity four at 8:30 a.m. The Irish will then compete in the novice eight (9:00), the first varsity four (9:20), the second varsity eight (9:40) and the first varsity eight (10:00).

The third and final regatta session will begin on Saturday afternoon, with Notre Dame, Alabama and Indiana taking part in third varsity four racing at 11:50. The Irish will have a pair of entries in the second varsity four at 12:10 p.m., with the novice eight to immediately follow at 12:20. The regatta will close with the first varsity four (12:40), second varsity eight (1:00) and first varsity eight (1:20).
