MILWAUKEE – The No. 10 Fighting Irish won its third straight on Tuesday at Valley Fields, defeating Marquette in convincing fashion by a score of 18-8.
Three Notre Dame players registered five points in the win, led by Jake Taylor’s five goals. Quinn McCahon and Pat Kavanagh each added two goals and three assists, while Wheaton Jackoboice registered a season-high four goals.
Liam Entenmann had a stellar day in goal, making 15 saves while allowing just seven goals in nearly 55 minutes of action. The Notre Dame defense was led by Arden Cohen and Jason Reynolds, each causing two turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Irish and Golden Eagles traded goals early, with the score level at 2-2 with just under six minutes to play in the first frame. Will Lynch then cleanly won a faceoff and found Pat Kavanagh for a goal, which started a 6-0 run to put the Irish on top at 8-2 less than three minutes into the second quarter.
The score moved to 11-5 before Jackoboice completed his hat trick just before the half to give Notre Dame a 12-5 advantage heading into the halftime break.
The two sides each scored twice in the third quarter, making the score 14-7 at the start of the final 15 minutes of play.
Pat Kavanagh, Jackoboice and Taylor each scored to start the fourth quarter and Michael Fay scored his first goal of the season to secure the 18-8 victory.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Taylor continued his excellent run of play, leading the attack with five goals. Since earning the starting nod three games ago against Syracuse the junior has 15 goals and two assists.
STAT OF THE GAME
Entenmann has been dominant against Marquette. In his two starts against the Golden Eagles the goalie has made 33 saves while allowing just 10 goals.
